JAN 03
As we have renewed our baptismal vows and covenant, and reminded ourselves of our shared ministry with each other and with Christ, we hold our prayers before Almighty God.
We pray for our church: that our hearts will be open to your grace and truth, that we will take seriously this covenant, and that we will find ways to use the gifts you have given us to uphold your glorious name and share your Gospel.
We pray for our leaders: For Bishop Sandra, and for all government officials: that your unfailing love will speak through their decisions and directions; that your truth will be shared (even when we as individuals may not see it).
We pray for our ministries: that we will be filled with your Holy and life-giving Spirit, and encouraged by new possibilities, such that our actions done in your name will affirm to all that they are held in your loving arms.
We pray for our community: that we will love others in the power of the Spirit, that we will not forget the needs of our neighbours, that we will embrace all people, as the wholeness of your Body with whom we share this space.
We pray for the world: that we will be agents of your peace and glory. In a time of tension and upheaval, help us to pray for peace and to work for justice, that your will be done.
We pray for those experiencing need: help us to respond to seeing you in every face we meet, guide our hearts to offer your comfort to the sick and dying and those who mourn, empower us to advocate for more just systems that encourage the dignity of all.
Grant, O Lord, that all who are baptized into the death of Jesus Christ your Son may live in the power of his resurrection and look for him to come again in glory; who lives and reigns now and for ever. Amen.

JAN 17
God of love, you called us before we were born. Help us, your church, to use our gifts and skills to shine your light in the world. As we thank you for the leadership of our church; our Primate Linda, our Bishop Sandra, and all who lead; we ask you to empower us to be a blessing to your church. May all we say and do demonstrate our devotion to you, and our compassion to your people. Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
God of wisdom, you inspire servant leadership. We ask you to bless the leaders of the nations as they balance their political and personal lives whilst under constant scrutiny. We hold in prayer the Queen and her family; the diplomatic core intervening in places of discord; the governments addressing civil unrest; the authorities combatting climate change; the countless health care researchers and workers striving to bring us release from COVID’s impacts; and all others who dedicate their lives to service. Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
God of peace, help us to see the world as your great masterpiece. Move your Spirit in our lives that we commit our actions: to work for peace where there is conflict; to foster unity where there is division; to journey toward reconciliation where there is prejudice; to seek sustainable lives where there is greed and destruction. Help us to find the strength to amend our lives to your will in ways that will protect and preserve your world, as you intended. Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
God of companionship, we offer our prayers for our local community. For those who work here, and those who are retired; for those who study, and those who teach. For those who do not know you and those who praise you. As you continually reach out to us in love, may we respond to that love by using the gift of our lives in our community: help us to offer more encouragement than criticism, more support than isolation, more kindness than harshness. Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
God of comfort, we pause to consider those in any need, remembering in our minds the names we hold in our hearts. We hold before those whose needs are unknown by us; and those who have no one else praying for their well-being. For those whose bodies lack health and wholeness; those whose minds deny them peace; those whose spirits are restless or disturbed; those whose hearts are broken; that your presence will sooth their souls and bring them comfort. Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
God of generosity, help us to live in the truth of your love. Help us to see each day as a great gift, choosing to delight in the abundance of graces rather than get caught in a perception of scarcity. Help us to celebrate gratitude and embrace the opportunity to care for each other, as we reflect on all the blessings of this life. May our hearts be truly thankful. Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
JAN 24
Lord, as we gather together in prayer, celebrating the opportunity to pause from the busyness of life and hold before you those in our hearts and minds.
We hold before you the church: the people we love, and those we try to love, and those who try to love us. You hold us together even while we are apart, and we honour the gifts of this unity. We ask you to bless Bishop Sandra, and all in church leadership. Strengthen them in the trials they endure, support them in their commitment to uphold the faith. Help us to model our lives on your example of servant leadership.
We hold up the communities of faith that we call home: Join us in areas and times that we celebrate the goodness of this life; help us when conflict causes distress; empower us in the call to live in peace and charity with all your children.
We raise in prayer the Queen and her family, the governments we have elected. As politics can divide, help us to support the healing opportunities before us. May all who govern use their authority to establish decisions and policies that defer to the greater good.
In a busy news week, we hold up before you those whose lives have been changed this week: for victims of violence, and for agents of change; for those who grieve and mourn, and those who celebrate. We pray for all who work to bring about justice, unity, and peace.
In this time of viral loads and vaccines, we pray for all who are impacted by COVID-19: the sick and their carers, the medical and support staff, the researchers and delivery systems. Help us to also raise up those whose ailments are not in the headlines: those who suffer illness in body, mind, and spirit; and those who accompany them.
We raise up our own prayers: for our loved ones, for our homes, for our world. We lift before you our abundant thanksgivings, we raise up the needs in our lives and the lives of those we love. We ask you to show us how to better follow you in all we say and do.
We lift these prayers, O God, knowing that you hear us: in the words of our mouths and the whispers of our hearts. We plead that you answer these prayers as may be best for us. Grant us knowledge in your truth, and comfort in your presence. Through Jesus Christ we pray.
Amen.
JAN 31
We offer our prayers to God, the source of all love and all life.
We pray for the church, for all who call themselves Christians, for all who follow the way of Jesus. We ask your blessing on our Primate Linda, our Bishop Sandra, our Archdeacon Tom, and all in leadership. Help us all to remain faithful to your call to serve.
Lord, in your mercy, Hear our Prayer.
We pray for all who govern, and all who support them: for the Queen, the Prime Minister, the Premier, and our Town Council. We ask you to guide their hearts to works of justice and peace, and to inspire the hearts of those considering public service.
Lord, in your mercy, Hear our Prayer.
We pray for this town of Lunenburg, and for every community that we call home. We ask your blessing on those who find this a safe place to live, work, seek leisure, go to school, or visit. We ask your blessing on us here in our shared life together.
Lord, in your mercy, Hear our Prayer.
We pray for all those who struggle with the necessities of life; those who experience need; those who are victims of violence and oppression; we ask your blessing on those who serve these communities, and we beg you to turn the hearts of those whose actions work against a healthy society.
Lord, in your mercy, Hear our Prayer.
We pray for the sick, and those who care for them. We ask for eternal rest for those who have died, and comfort for those who grieve and mourn. We pray for the lonely, the isolated, the depressed. For all whose bodies, minds, and spirits are cause for distress, we ask your mercy.
Lord, in your mercy, Hear our Prayer.
We pray with thanksgiving for the faith which sustains us, for the examples of love and light that you have brought to our lives. We ask you to help us recognise the blessings that we have, and the opportunities to be a blessing in the week ahead.
Lord, in your mercy, Hear our Prayer.
Amen.
