Original Prayers, Feb 2021

 FEB 7

Triune God, you call us to be your church, and you trust us to witness to your glory. We ask your blessing on our gathering, and on every gathering in faith. We ask you to strengthen our Bishop Sandra, Archdeacon Tom, the clergy of the South Shore, and all who serve in leadership in your church in these difficult times. Help us to follow in your footsteps to be the church of justice and peace. Hear us, gracious Lord.

We ask you to send the fire of your Spirit into the hearts of those who govern; that their decisions are based on seeking the common good. Send your blessings upon them, their families and friends. And help us to be encouragers in the process, standing up for what is right. Hear us, gracious Lord.

Help us to support the victims of our society, to advocate for the voiceless, to journey alongside the marginalised, to calm the anxious, to extend hospitality. In our home towns, may our thoughts, words, and actions speak of your truth and love, that strangers in our midst may come to know this as home. Hear us, gracious Lord.

We pray for the sick, whose bodies struggle, whose minds whisper negativity, whose spirits feel depleted. Comfort the afflicted, support the caregivers, inspire the researchers. We ask your blessing for health and wholeness of souls, and to be calmed by the reassurance of eternal life. Hear us, gracious Lord.

Empower us, Lord, to rid our own demons of indifference, complicity, and anger. Help us to silence the voices of retribution, cruelty, and judgement. As we continually seek you in our lives, Lord, accompany us as we build up our capacity to love and serve you, as we love and serve others in our midst. Hear us, gracious Lord.

Remind us, God, of our comforts; our joys, our happiness, our privilege. Help us to see your light shining in the eyes of our friends and families; help us to be the light that brightens the day of those we encounter. In all things, guide and direct our hearts to contentment and gratitude. Hear us, gracious Lord. Amen.

FEB 14

Lord Jesus, you continue to reveal your glory to your followers. Help us, as your church, to see a glimpse of the resurrected life in the ongoing ministries of your church. Bless our leadership of Bishop Sandra and Archdeacon Tom, as they help us to discern ways to transfigure our lives to reflect your radiance. Lord,

Hear our prayer.

God of all peoples and all cultures, pour your grace upon the leaders of all nations. Inspire them to seek ways to collaborate for the betterment of all people, and for the protection of our delicate earth. Remind them of their commitment to serve their communities and countries through structures and systems that enhance life for all. Lord,

Hear our prayer.

God of love, help us as we journey with one another: remove from our hearts any hatred or anger; fill us with compassion and kindness. Help us to treat one another as we would wish to be treated; to live in respect and understanding, to increase our expression of community. In times of restrictions and confusion, calm our hearts that we support one another as best we are able. Lord,

Hear our prayer.

God of connection, we ask your blessing on our home town. For those who live and work here; for our friends who are young in body, and those who are young at heart; for those who we regularly see and those who prefer solitude; for those in abundance and those who are vulnerable. Show your love to all, and inspire us to do the same.  Lord,

Hear our prayer.

Holy One, wrap us in your arms of comfort and care. Help us to cast our sorrows and challenges on you, knowing that you share our burdens. We ask your peace to surround those who are sick, struggling, and those experiencing any need. Support the caregivers, reinforce the exhausted, strengthen with your love all who face adversity and fear. Lord,

Hear our prayer.

Gracious God, hear our prayers of thanksgiving: for the blessings of this life, including those we forget to count or are unaware of. Hear our celebrations for all the goodness which we know comes from you. Lighten our spirits that we may raise your glory in acts of love and prayer and generosity. As we move into the coming week, guide our lives to give you greater glory.

In your name we pray, Lord,

Hear our prayer. Amen.

FEB 21

We pray for the church; for the church of Lunenburg, and for the church throughout the world. As we find new ways to connect, in person and online - we pray to find ways to live in unity and praise. In faith, and in action, we pray:

God have mercy.

We pray for our leaders: that your Spirit will guide their hearts and minds to works of justice and peace. That their governance may be a reflection of compassion and consideration for all, we pray:

God have mercy.

We pray for ourselves; to be aware of the world around us, to be forgiven our guilt, to be inspired to faithful action. We pray to have open hearts and calm minds that help us to live our faith in life-giving ways:

God have mercy.

We pray for our community: for an increased understanding of others and a willingness to help. For an ability to meet others as they are, and that they may know your love through our actions:

God have mercy.

We pray for the world: For those in places of conflict and distress; for those in fear of COVID, for those in situations of oppression and violence. In all we do, help us to speak for the voiceless, to assist those in need, and to remember that we are collectively your grand creation. We pray:

God have mercy.

We pray for those in any distress, want, or need: for the sick and the suffering, the caregivers and researchers, the victims of our society and those who minister to them. To remove all prejudice from our hearts and direct us to act in love, we pray:

God have mercy.

Accompany us, Lord, as we seek your presence and dwell in your grace. Support us in our Lenten journey, that our prayers and fastings and almsgivings may strengthen our faith, and keep us in the joy of thanksgiving. We pray:

God have mercy. Amen.

FEB 28

Help us to see your truth shining in and through the people we meet: in those who lead us in government and in the church; those who encourage us as we live out our ministry; those who inspire us into action for the betterment of our community.

Lord, in your mercy, Hear our Prayer

Help us to see the world with new eyes, inspiring us to be amazed at the wonders around us. May we take action to preserve and protect the beauty of our natural environment, keeping it safe for generations to come.

Lord, in your mercy, Hear our Prayer

Help us to know and love our local community, seeing and recognising the many layers of our connectedness. As we delight in our rich history, may we embrace the possibilities of our future, that this place may continue to be a home for generations to come.

Lord, in your mercy, Hear our Prayer

Help us to care for those in any need of body, mind, or spirit; help us to be grateful for the people and systems that care for our loved ones. As we advocate for the systems that provide for our families and neighbours, help us to be thankful for our health in you.

Lord, in your mercy, Hear our Prayer

Help us to be grateful; waking every day with renewed energy to embrace the positive in our lives. As we celebrate the abundance of blessings in our lives, let us also be a blessing to someone, today and every day.

Lord, in your mercy, Hear our Prayer

We bring you these prayers, loving God, asking that through them we may be changed, and see your glory in all we do. In your name we pray; Amen.
